Student science under the stars: results of the conference "Modern Astronomy: Science and Education" at the Moscow State University Traffic Police

From June 23 to June 27, 2025 at the P.K. Sternberg State Astronomical Institute (GAISH) Moscow State University hosted the international scientific conference "Modern Astronomy: Science and Education". The event brought together more than 100 representatives of astronomical organizations in Russia and abroad. — from leading scientists to undergraduates and postgraduates.
A special feature of the conference was the active participation of young researchers: reports were presented by students of 4-6 courses of the traffic police, as well as graduate students of the Institute. Each participant presented the results of his scientific work in one of the specialized sections:
- "Stars" and "Modern Stellar Astronomy";
- "Galaxies";
- "High energy Astrophysics and Cosmology";
- "Sun", "Moon and planets";
- "Celestial Mechanics", "Astrometry", "Gravimetry";
- "Methods and tools";
- "Astronomical education and the history of astronomy".
The format of the reports combined in-depth review lectures and short speeches. The leading scientists gave 40‑minute presentations, while the rest of the participants received 15 minutes each to present their research, which was enough time to explain the essence and answer questions from colleagues.
The organizers noted that the conference was made possible thanks to the support of philanthropist Ilya Cech. Organizational fees for all students and postgraduates of the traffic police were fully paid with his funds. In addition , Ilya Cech organized catering for the participants, as well as designed and purchased branded merchandise.
